SERT Technical Rescue personnel form the core of the Ohio Region 2 USAR Team, a state-level asset that provides Structural Collapse Rescue capability to Northeast Ohio, including the SERT response area. The mission of the USAR Team is to have 30 trained responders enroute to the scene of an incident within 30 minutes of notification, and to initiate rescue operations for the first twelve hours of the incident in advance of federal resources. Twenty-five SERT rescuers participate in the USAR Team; twelve have completed the FEMA Structural Collapse Technician curriculum, and five hold Technical Search Specialist certification.
